ABC to the future ABC TO THE FUTURE
As the National United Society of the Blind prepares to execute its Sponsor walk for 2006, sadly we remain aware that many children, teenagers, and adults who are blind or visually impaired seldom have the opportunity to be integrated into a normal classroom setting.
In loving Memory of the late ANTHONY SPENCER, a truly great stalwart of the organization and the disabled movement, who six years ago, tragically lost his life in a car accident; the Members of the organization have endorsed the Executive’s commitment to a two year succession plan. A series of fund-raising events with emphasis being placed on galvanizing a percentage of the funds raised to equip children, young persons and adults who are blind or visually impaired with the necessary assistive instruments, (e.g. gadgets, course fees, etc) which will help to breakdown barriers of exclusion to education.
It is however envisioned that for the start of the September 2007 school term, the organization would have succeeded in raising enough funds to grant a full Scholarship to either a primary or secondary school age applicant, to facilitate its entire school life within a learning institution conducive to an inclusive method of teaching.
Under the theme “ABC – To the Future”, this year’s Sponsor Walk will seek to Advance Blind Causes, which we hope will lead to a brighter future for a generation of persons who are blind and visually impaired.
The schedule date for this year’s walk is Saturday, June 17th 2006, starting at 6.30AM, in the parking lot adjacent to Supercenter – Big B in Worthing, and climaxing at Browne’s Beach, (opposite the open window) for a day filled with beach activities and a fundraising Barbeque.
Your generous donations over the years have assisted the organization to stand by its mandate of bringing light where there is darkness; strength where there is weakness; through education, otivation and mutual respect.
