Eric Williams

Dr Eric WilliamsFrequently referred to as the "father of the nation" in Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Williams led his country to independence and remained at its helm until his death in 1981.

In addition to his long and successful political career, Dr. Williams was a professor at the Howard University for a number of years. Dr. Eric Williams considered himself a teacher, historian and a philosopher. Dr. Williams worked tirelessly to establish independence for his country and for a West Indian Federation. He also established his country as a republic in 1976.

In his latter years in office, Dr. Williams developed partial deafness, but this in no way diminished his capability to rule the country which he loved and whose people loved him.
